Abtei Lustgarten

2026-3

2026.3.1 ~ Introduction

After I have finished the vegetable garden and cemetery - the finishing touches with Preiserlein and other details will come later -

and after a long period of consideration, I finally dedicated myself to the Lustgarten.
The idea of box hedges, gravel, and grass admittedly came from Faller's Bebenhausen monastery.

But there is more to it than the eye meets.

The outer edge will become a walkway with flowerbeds and shrubs at the very edge against the outer wall.
It remains a continuous search for the right balance of all the elements.

2026.3.1 ~ From the outside inwards

(March 2026)

The principle is both austere and simple: a border with plants and shrubs is placed against the outer wall, separated from the main path by a low, two-brick wall.
A boxwood hedge is planted on the inner side of the path, with the remaining space up to the abbey wall filled with white gravel.

As is customary in spatial planning, it has become a ritual to shift certain parts frequently and extensively in order to find the right balance.

Since I do not have a square setting, like at the Bebenhausen Monastery, I am trying to maintain a certain symmetry on the one hand,

while on the other hand I want to preserve the entire space opposite the Abbey's facade.

I still need to think about this. A flower border could offer a solution...

First, I placed the fountain in position. The paths and hedges extend from there.

Naturally, the fountain is positioned exactly in line with the spire and the roof ridge | 10.6.2026

2026.3.2 ~ And then: the big jump

(June 2026)

What I have put off long enough! Today I took the plunge: sand and gravel around the entire abbey.
